I am a strong believer in supporting local animal shelters. I have spent many years as a volunteer in different areas of Baltimore County through activities such as organizing and hosting fundraisers and supply drives, participating in walks and other community activities, utilizing my videography and photograhpy skills to help homeless animals find forever families, and always spreading the word about considering adoption first.

It is my experience volunteering at the Baltimore Humane Society which has thus far been the most rewarding. Every time I go there, I am greeted warmly by their staff and fellow volunteers, and I am always impressed by the manner of professionalism and vigilance with which they look after the animals in their care. I have seen for myself that they truly do all they can to find homes for the animals they house, and that they provide them with the optimum care during their stay. There really is no lacking for love or committment at the BHS.
However, shelters like the Baltimore Humane Society have daily needs that, as a non-profit organization, they struggle to meet. Volunteering is not something that takes a great deal of time or financial resources--it can be as simple as dropping off a few cans of dog food, or a few rolls of paper towels. Since every little bit counts, I always strongly encourage people to volunteer in the manner most feasible for them.
And you just may find, as I did, that volunteering at a shelter like the BHS not only helps the lives of homeless animals, but it can do wonders for the human spirit as well.
